Dear Customer,

It's the season of renewal - a perfect time to do some spring cleaning of your database. While you're at it, look for new life in that database before the postal rate increase kicks in. Speaking of the USPS, you can rest assured that our Resident List passes the Postal Service test. Here's the scope of all the stories we prepared for you this month:

Most USPS New Rates to Hit May 14

New rates are officially on the way. In March, the Governors of the Postal Service voted to implement higher rates for most mail classes at 12:01 a.m., May 14, 2007. Periodicals got a two-month reprieve: their rate increase won't go into effect until 12:01 a.m., July 15, 2007. Click here to download New USPS Rates & Fees ().

DLT Resident List Passes All New Postal Regulations

We received many inquiries about the new Postal requirements for address quality. Rest assured: our Resident List passes all the Delivery Point Validation (DPV) and Locatable Address Correction System (LACS) requirements. Since our resident data comes directly from the USPS Computerized Delivery Sequence (CDS) product, it is automatically 100% certified. Bottom line: This list comes "straight from the horse's mouth."

How to Prepare for 2007 Rate and Rule Changes

During this dynamic year of changes in rates and rules, it's time to do some double-checking of your SOPs (standard operating procedures). Here, we share a recommended "TO DO" List presented at a meeting of the Southern California Chapter of the Mailing & Fulfillment Service Association (MFSA) recently. The full version of this presentation gives an overview of rate case, changes by class, address quality, implementation, and related issues. Here's the summary:

  • Analyze current delivery patterns
    • Review presort iterations, rework destination entry patterns
  • Review mail piece design
    • Size, processing categories, weight, address, barcode placement
  • Evaluate production changes
    • Data management, [mail.dat, etc]
    • Workflow impacts from mail piece format changes, addressing
  • Address management
    • Use available tools and update methods, data hygiene
    • Anticipate strengthened USPS standards
    • Implement DPV [Delivery Point Validation] and LACS [Locatable Address Correction System] on August 1, 2007
  • Consider the changes as business opportunities.

Review more details of the above summary in the full MFSA presentation.
